Gujarat Vidyapeeth is an educational institution established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920, nurturing the culture, society and nature of the country and keeping pace with changing technology, promoting democratic values, self-reliance through social service education and man-centred education system. All over the country and in the state of Gujarat, there are many universities that have started studying Professional Social Work (MSW) in Gujarati medium since 1970.
An important contribution of the Gujarat Vidyapeeth and Department of Social Work is the linkage with government departments and NGOs working in the field of social service and development work. The study helps in developing the necessary knowledge, skills and capacity building for students who want to start their own organization to take entrepreneurial steps in the field of social service.
