Established in 1920 with the founding of Gujarat Vidyapith, the library has evolved into one of Gujarat’s most comprehensive repositories of books, journals, manuscripts and other non-print resources. Serving dual roles as both an academic and public library, it offers membership to the public at a nominal fee.
Located on the Ahmedabad campus of Gujarat Vidyapith, the library has a rich historical legacy tied to India’s independence movement. Its extensive collection includes over 600,000 volumes, covering rare books, reference works, and other valuable resources. Catering to the informational needs of Gujarat Vidyapith’s students and faculty, the library also serves the communities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, fulfilling its mission as both an academic and public library. Its vast resources span a diverse range of subjects, including Gujarati, Hindi, and English Literature, Social Work, Sociology, Education, Physical Education, Library Science, Gandhian Literature, Microbiology, etc.
